How to Use the Exercise Spa and Lap Pool to Cross Train – Swim Spas San Jose

Friday, March 29th, 2019

Athletes have been maximizing performance by cross training for generations. Engaging the body in two or more different types of physical activities forces the muscles to work differently, and is a proven way to move beyond the famous “plateau”.

A swim spa is a terrific piece of equipment and a sound investment for anyone hoping to take athletic performance to the next level.

Here are three amazingly fun cross training ideas to try with a swim spa at home.

Resistance Bands for Shaping and Toning
Lifting weights is always one of the best activities for improving athletic performance. But in water, the benefits are even greater. Water is naturally buoyant, but it also has a certain amount of natural resistance too. Adding resistance bands to both ends of your swim spa gives you the extra push you need to see incredible results fast.

Low Impact Running
Did you know that you can use a treadmill in your swim spa? An even safer alternative to running on land, treadmill walking in water is easier on the joints, more convenient than visiting the gym and super fun. Plus, with mobility or joint issues, using a treadmill in water is a safe, effective way to continue a cardiovascular regimen after injury or during rehabilitation.

Continuous Lap Swimming
Swimming is easily the best activity for cross training. It’s a safe, extremely effective way to shape and tone every muscle in the body—including those that rarely get attention, like the back and shoulder muscles. With a swim spa at home, it’s easier ah ever to customize the perfect current, adjusting as you gain speed. With regular use, the swim spa can help you keep weight gain in check while building strong, solid muscles.

So Go Ahead, Take a Swim, You Deserve It!
It’s, fast, fun and relaxing. Not only that, it’s good for the body, soothes the mind and can improve your overall health and well-being.

To encourage local residents to check out the benefits of using a swim spa to help improve their overall health and well-being, The Spa and Sauna Company is providing free swim spa test soaks at all their showrooms. We do recommend, however, that people wanting to schedule their free 30-minute test call us ahead of time to reserve their spot.

Hot Tubs, Swim Spas Dealer San Jose Shares Tips for National Optimism Month

Friday, March 29th, 2019

Hot Spring Spas of San Jose and Santa Cruz (The Spa and Sauna Company), a hot tub and swim spa dealer with retail showrooms in the greater San Jose and Santa Cruz publishes guide for National Optimism Month

“March is National Optimism Month, a great time for people of all ages to turn the tide of pessimism toward optimism,” said Scott Clark, CEO of The Spa and Sauna Company. “By practicing an

optimistic attitude for the entire month, people can make it a habit that will have a healthy, positive impact on their lives forever.”

Here are 3 ways to create an optimistic outlook to get the month started.

Soak Away Negativity in a Backyard Hot Tub – Adding a portable spa to the home makes it easier to utilize it for a positive outlook on a daily basis. Soaking at night has a two-fold purpose.

First, it gives people a way to get rid of stress, anxiety or tension in a soothing atmosphere that is luxurious and peaceful, for a healthier outcome to daily difficulties. Second, soaking in the relaxing waters of a portable spa prepares people for a good night’s sleep, and helps them sleep more soundly, so they can be rested and ready to take on all of the challenges of the next day in a healthy, positive manner.

Don’t overlook the benefits of a morning hot tub session either. Soaking in the hot tub for a few minutes at the start of the day prepares people mentally for what they need to do, and boosts endorphins for a great feeling that will carry them through everything they are confronted with.

Set Goals, and Believe in Them – A lot of people, both optimistic and pessimistic set goals, but optimists believe that the goals they have will happen – no matter what else goes on, or how events unfold. Even when things seem to be going wrong, an optimist will have faith that they can deal with all that comes, and even negative events are an opportunity to learn and find a better path.

Keep a Gratitude Journal – Spend a few minutes every day jotting down the things and events that happened and what there is to be happy and grateful for during that time. A study by Emmons and McCullough in 2003 showed the direct effects of gratitude on people’s state of well-being.

Spa and Sauna Team Member’s Wellness Challenge

Thursday, March 21st, 2019

By Laura Varnon, Marketing Coordinator

Zach Wylie, a sales consultant here at The Spa and Sauna Company, recently invested in a Sauna for his home. He decided to challenge himself to participate in a personal wellness challenge to encourage himself to use his new Sauna daily.

The personal challenge, which we have dubbed the 30 Sweats in 30 Days Personal Challenge, is similar to the 30 Soaks in 30 Days Personal Challenge we currently encourage our new Hot Tub owners to participate in.

All new Hot Tub owners in the Reno/Sparks area get a package in the mail, including a Calendar, Flier and Stickers to track hot tub usage, shortly after their hot tub is delivered. We at The Spa and Sauna Company believe that if you have a hot tub or sauna, you should be using it. If you use your hot tub or sauna frequently when you first acquire it, you are more likely to stick with the habit as long as you own your hot tub or sauna.

About Zach’s Sauna

Zach’s sauna is a Finnleo Sauna, which is available at The Spa and Sauna Company’s Reno and Sparks locations. He selected a Finnleo HM 44, which is an indoor traditional sauna, 4 feet by 4 feet. This model works with a standard 110V outlet, so no special electrical hookup was required.

The Spa and Sauna Company carries InfraRed and Traditional Saunas and can provide Custom or Pre-Fabricated Saunas. Saunas start at about $1,999.

“The health benefits of this are worth the investment,” Zach said.

About Zach’s Personal Challenge

During the Personal Challenge, Zach decided to increase the temperature and duration of his Sauna sessions. He currently likes to spend about 21 minutes in the sauna and keeps his sauna set in the low 170-degree range.

He decided on those temperatures and durations based on some Sauna studies he has read and personal preference.

After completing the Challenge, he has decided he prefers to use his sauna in the morning. Using a built-in timer, he can plan for his sessions daily.

“Because it is invigorating, it’s a great way to start the day,” Zach said.

Health Benefits

Health benefits Zach has already experienced include relaxation, deeper sleep, and improved range of motion after a shoulder injury.

If you want more information about our Personal Challenge, visit https://spaandsauna.com/wellness/.

If you are considering a Sauna, and need a little guidance on finding the right one for you, we encourage you to fill out our Perfect Sauna Quiz and one of our Sauna Experts will be in touch. Click here to visit our Perfect Sauna Quiz: https://spaandsauna.com/find-the-perfect-sauna/.

Sparks Veteran Awarded FREE Hot Tub

Thursday, March 14th, 2019

By Laura Varnon, Marketing Coordinator

The Spa and Sauna Company, spa manufacturer Sundance Spas, and the charity Wish for Our Heroes have teamed up to award a local veteran, Kevin Vogt, a free Sundance Spa as a small thank you for his military service.

This is the second time in less than a year that the organizations have worked together to award a local veteran a free spa.

Kevin, who lives in Sparks with his wife and son, has been in the Army National Guard for almost 20 years now. He is currently a few months away from retiring. Kevin most recently served in Kuwait in 2016-2017. He has also served in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Egypt.

“We, at The Spa and Sauna Company, are honored to fulfill this hot tub donation, in conjunction with Sundance Spas and Wish for Our Heroes,” said Spa and Sauna Co. Owner Scott Clark. “We are incredibly grateful to Kevin for his Service to our country and the sacrifices he and his family have made during his many overseas deployments. We wish Kevin and his family years of enjoyment, family time and hydrotherapy benefits from their new Sundance Spa.”

Kevin, who has back and shoulder injuries from his overseas tours, is looking forward to the therapeutic value his new Hamilton 780 hot tub will provide. Although he has experienced daily discomfort from his injuries, there is no surgery available for him right now. Prior to receiving his hot tub, he relied on stretching for pain relief.

“I’ve had it recommended from several doctors – use hot tubs.”

Kevin started his military career in the Iowa National Guard at the age of 17 in 1999. He needed parental permission to join prior to turning 18.

“I decided military is what I wanted to do,” he said, as he explained how he graduated high school early, and spent what would have been his senior year of high school in basic training.

After joining, he attended the University of Northern Iowa, but was deployed overseas twice, so it took him 7 years to graduate. He married his college sweetheart, Courtney, and together they moved to Nevada about 10 years ago. They now have an 8-year-old son, Gavin.

On the day of delivery, only Kevin was around. Courtney was at work and Gavin was at school.

“My son is so ridiculously excited about this,” he said, of their new hot tub.

Kevin is planning to retire from the military this spring, after 20 years of service.

“It’s going to be a lot more time with the family,” he said, mentioning that he is looking forward to that, especially after time away during deployments.

Wish for Our Heroes is “a national 501(c)(3), dedicated to providing resources to the “average” active-duty military member, in order to make their deployments a little easier, and to improve the quality of their family lives while home or during deployment,” according to their website.

Together Sundance Spas, Wish for Our Heroes and Sundance Spa dealers around the country will have donated hot tubs to 35 veterans nationwide by the end of this year. The collaborative program, Hot Tubs for Heroes, was started in 2017. The organizations intend to continue donating hot tubs to veterans.

“Kevin was chosen because of his need of hydrotherapy due to multiple injuries in his back and shoulder from his service. We want to make sure Kevin receives the hydrotherapy he needs to have a better day to day life using our Sundance spa… Sundance Spas knows that hydrotherapy can be beneficial to our veterans suffering from injuries post service, which is why we’ve partnered up with Wish for Our Heroes and launched the Hot Tubs for Heroes Program nationwide,” said James Choi, Channel Marketing Manager for Sundance Spas.

This is the second spa donation in NV. Both were through The Spa and Sauna Company.

Kevin, and last year’s recipient, Daniel Rogers of Reno, actually know each other and have been on 2 deployments together. They currently belong to the same unit, although Kevin spent 9 years in Infantry before joining the Military Police.

Daniel actually referred Kevin to the program.

“This is going to be a great way for us to relax and just be together as a family,” Kevin said, of his new hot tub. “Being overseas so many times, I’ve been away for a little bit so it’s nice to be able to do something together and to have something that’s going to relieve some stress. I’m pretty excited to have it.”

We wish Kevin and his family a lifetime of happy hot tubbing in their Sundance Hamilton Spa!

Why Portable Hot Tubs Are Better Than In-Ground Hot Tubs

Thursday, February 28th, 2019

By Laura Varnon, Marketing Coordinator

There are a variety of choices to make when it comes to getting a hot tub.

What we’re going to discuss today is why a portable hot tub is better than an in-ground or semi in-ground hot tub.

At The Spa and Sauna Company, we recommend keeping your portable hot tub portable, as it was intended. Let us explain why.

Reason 1: In-ground or semi in-ground hot tubs add a lot to construction costs

The hot tubs available from The Spa and Sauna Company are designed to be placed on a concrete pad. While you could sink them into the ground, that would require another contractor to dig a hole and possibly build a structure to surround your hot tub.

If your hot tub is placed in-ground or semi in-ground, you would require excavation, ground reinforcement, and a French drain or sump pump. That would add time and cost, and additional vendors. None of those things are necessary for hot tub enjoyment.

Plus, have you seen the cabinets on our hot tubs? They are designed to be aesthetically pleasing and functional. Why would you want to cover that up?

Reason 2: In-ground and semi in-ground hot tubs are harder to get in to

With a typical above-ground portable hot tub, you step up on a couple of steps and then into your hot tub, usually to a shelf that is about the same height as the highest step.

With a in-ground or semi in-ground hot tub, you step down into your hot tub from higher up, which means it’s a little awkward to get in your hot tub. It also increases the chances that you might slip.

It also harder to remove the cover on an in-ground or semi in-ground hot tub, because you can’t rely on the assistance of a mechanical cover lifter that pairs so nicely with a portable hot tub.

A hot tub that is harder to open and get into gets used less than one that is easy to access.

At The Spa and Sauna Company, we want to make sure you get as much use and enjoyment from your investment as possible.

Reason 3: Safety

When a hot tub is flush with the ground, you have to take extra precautions to make sure no children, pets, or inattentive adults, inadvertently step into your open hot tub.

That’s a lot less of a concern, when your hot tub is several feet above ground-level.

Reason 4: Energy Efficiency

The ground temperatures in Nevada are a lot colder than the temperature outside. That works to your disadvantage with an in-ground hot tub.

Although the temperature outside can swing by about 30 degrees from day to night, the ground temperature does not experience those variations. It just stays colder. That means the ground around an in-ground hot tub holds in the cold (not the heat) which works against your goal of keeping your hot tub hot.

You’ll end up paying more in electricity costs to keep an in-ground or semi in-ground hot tub heated.

Above-ground portable hot tubs work with the temperature and the sun exposure to reduce you energy costs.

Reason 5: In-ground or semi in-ground hot tubs are harder to access for electrical hook up

Installation is more complex. Your electrician will need access to run the wires to your hot tub. If the access area is underground it will be harder to get to. If you decide to build a structure around your hot tub, please make sure you can access the control panel and electrical hook up.

Reason 6: In-ground and semi in-ground hot tubs are harder to access for routine maintenance, routine cleaning, and service

There are times when you will need to open up your hot tub’s doors to the equipment compartment, either for routine maintenance or service. If that door is underground or even partly underground, that becomes much harder to do.

A well maintained hot tub is a hot tub that gets used more often.

Reason 7: Moving your hot tub

Should you move or decide to relocate your hot tub, The Spa and Sauna Company can help you. If you’ve submerged your hot tub, you now have a hole in your yard to fill and possible a structure to remove too.

We hope the reasons above have helped you decide if an in-ground, semi in-ground, or portable spa is right for you.

Why Portable Hot Tubs Are Better Than In-Ground Hot Tubs
