How Big of a Room do I Need for a Pool Table?

Chart explaining what size room you need for a pool table

Pool tables come in a variety of sizes to accommodate rooms of various sizes. However, you need to make sure that more than just your table will fit in your room. You also need to be able to fit your pool cues with room to move them comfortably, without hitting windows, while playing.

While a standard pool table is 8 feet long, there are also 7-foot-long pool tables and 9-foot-long pool tables.

The vendors we work with at The Spa and Sauna Co. are Brunswick Billiards and Olhausen Billiards. Both companies offer customization of their pool tables in a variety of styles. Pool table pricing starts at $2,150 and many models can be found in the $3,000 to $7,000 range. However, as you customize design, finishes, sites, types of cloth, and add upgrades, pricing can go over $10,000.

Click here for a chart provided by Brunswick Billiards for optimal room dimensions for pool tables of various sizes.

The smallest room you would ever want to put a pool table in is 11’6” x 14’6”. That would accommodate a 7’ pool table, with a short 48” cue. However, a slightly larger room at 12’ x 15’ would allow for that table with a 52” cue, while 13’ x 16’ would allow for a 7’ table with a standard size 58” pool cue.

Pool cue length comes down to personal preference and the amount of room you have. Some people prefer to break with a shorter cue, while other people who are under 6’4” feel more comfortable with a 48” or 52” cue.

For a standard 8’ table, you would need a room between 12’ x 15’6” with a short cue, to 12’6” x 16 for a 52” cue, to 13’6” x 17’ for a full 58” cue. As you can probably see, each time you expand the length of the cue chosen by 6 or 12 inches, you need to expand the size of the room by the same amount on all sides.

For a 9’ table, you would need a room at least 12’6 x 16’6”. A room of 13’ x 17’ would be needed for a 52” cue and a room of 14’ x 18’ would be needed for a 58” cue.

We hope this guide has helped you determine which room in your home can host your pool table. Please visit https://www.spaandsauna.com/pool-tables for more information on the brands we carry or to obtain a Pool Table Buyer’s Guide, Risk Free Price Quote or Information About Financing.

We carry pool tables, cues, and accessories at two of our locations, The Spa and Billiard Shop at 9748 S. Virginia St. in Reno and at The Spa and Sauna Shop, 250 E. Glendale Ave. in Sparks.

We look forward to helping your find the right pool table for your needs.

Should I buy a used hot tub or spa on Craigslist?

Should I buy a used hot tub or spa on Craigslist?

Ad for an inexpensive hot tub on Craigslist. Is it a good deal?

You’ve decided you want to buy a hot tub. You’ve looked in some showrooms possibly. Maybe you’re not ready to commit to a big purchase, so you start searching Craigslist.

After a minute or two of searching, you see this ad.

Sounds pretty good, doesn’t it? How much could a new pump cost? A couple hundred dollars, maybe? Possibly much more.

We at The Spa and Sauna Co. aren’t going to tell you that you shouldn’t buy a hot tub or spa on Craigslist, but we do want to share some helpful buying tips, so you can enjoy your purchase.

  1.  Before you buy a hot tub or spa off a site like Craigslist, or from any individual seller, remove the panels of the hot tub and check that there haven’t been any rodents or snakes nesting inside the warm insulation and near the heater. You will also want to check for any fraying in the wiring.
  2. Find out from the seller what works and what doesn’t. In this case, the seller sounds as if they are being quite upfront.
  3. If possible, fill the hot tub up on the owner’s property and check for leaks before you purchase it. Leaky spas can be costly to repair.
  4. Know that spas purchased from an individual don’t come with a warranty.
  5. See if you can identify the brand (in this case: Catalina Spas) and find out if there are any dealers in the area who still carry parts and can service the brand, model, and year of spa. You don’t want to get stuck with a hot tub or spa that needs repairs if the new parts and service are not available.
  6. If the owner still has it, ask them to include the Owner’s Manual. It will contain a lot of helpful information. If they don’t have it, you may be able to find it online.
  7. You will also want to find out if the spa requires 110V or 220V and make sure your home has the appropriate electrical and a flat surface (either a concrete pad or pavers) to rest the tub on.
  8. Find out the appropriate water care system and filters for your spa and be sure to use those.

Finally, if you’re more comfortable buying from an authorized hot tub dealer, please know that, at The Spa and Sauna Co., we obtain used and pre-owned hot tubs through our trade-in program. We often know their entire service history. All the used hot tubs we sell are inspected and certified. They undergo a full 24-point diagnostic inspection and include warranty, new filters, a spa cover, owner’s manual, water care chemical kit and/or an in-home seminar, and more. Delivery is also available.

For more information on our used hot tubs, which start at about $2,000, visit https://www.spaandsauna.com/used-hot-tubs.

What Kind of Hot Tub is Right for Me? An Honest Comparison

What Kind of Hot Tub is Right for Me? An Honest Comparison

Types of Hot Tubs

In this article, we will take an honest look at the kinds of hot tubs available on the market today. We encourage you to look at your budget and your dream backyard plan and decide what’s best for you.

At The Spa and Sauna Co., we sell new and used acrylic portable hot tubs, “plug-and-play” portable hot tubs, and new swim spas.  We realize these might not be the best choice for you but would like you to have as much information as possible in your search for hot water therapy.

Inflatable Hot Tubs or Vinyl Liner Hot Tubs

Certainly, the least expensive option, inflatable hot tubs are available for a few hundred dollars. They are most often sold by big-box stores and online retailers. Part of their appeal is the lack of financial commitment they require. If you decide a hot tub isn’t for you, you are only out a minimal amount of money. They are also good for people who don’t own their property or have the ability to put electrical components on their property. Inflatable hot tubs are also easily moved. However, they also easily pop.

“Plug-and-Play” Hot Tubs or Unicast Hot Tubs

“Plug-and-play” hot tubs are made of a rotationally-molded plastic which is also used to create everything from traffic cones to kayaks. “Plug-and-play” hot tubs can be used with a regular 110-volt electrical outlet, which saves the owner the cost of installing a more-expensive 220-volt outlet, which is required for almost all acrylic hot tubs and swim spas. Most unicast models offer bench seating. As an added bonus, because of their one-piece construction, these tubs tend to be more budget friendly than acrylic models. Because of this, they tend to be considered an introductory hot tub.

These tubs can be moved, if necessary.

However, there are some downsides associated with these models as well. They can’t be upgraded to have an enhanced sanitizing systems, stereo system, etc. And often the jet therapy they offer isn’t as intense as the offerings available with acrylic hot tubs.

Acrylic Hot Tubs

Acrylic hot tubs come in a variety of price points, starting around $5,000 and going as high as $20,000. Acrylic is used to make everything from furniture to light fixtures. These hot tubs can be modest, with basic jets and bench style seating, or very high end tubs, with customized loungers and seats and jets at a variety of locations, like neck, wrists, back, legs, etc.

Most acrylic hot tubs require a 220-volt electrical outlet, which requires special installation by an electrician. Acrylic hot tubs give you the most options in terms of features, such as speakers, waterfalls, lights, upgraded sanitizing or ozone systems, enhanced covers, etc. Acrylic hot tubs offer stylized cabinets that look like hardwood but are more durable.

Additionally, they can be moved, should you relocate or decide to sell your spa.

Both acrylic and “plug-and-play” hot tubs require a certain amount of maintenance. They do need to be purged, drained and cleaned every 4 months. They also require small amounts of time maintaining chemical levels on a weekly and daily basis. Services are available for this type of work if you prefer to have someone perform routine maintenance for you.

Swim Spas

Swim Spas offer the best of both worlds – an environment to swim in cooler water, around 80 degrees, and an area to soak with contoured, jetted seats. Swim spas can be installed indoors or out, semi-in-ground or above ground.

These tubs can be expensive, starting around $20,000 and going up to about $60,000, depending on options and features added. Some models offer enhanced exercise equipment, including underwater treadmills. They are great for family fun and athletes of any level.

Unlike an in-ground swimming pool or hot tub, a swim spa can be taken with you when if you move.

However, installation can be tricky and may even require a crane.

In-ground Hot Tubs

The Spa and Sauna Co. does not carry in-ground hot tubs. In-ground hot tubs are often made of fiberglass, which is also used to make airplanes, waterslides and speed boats.

In-ground hot tubs can be a beautiful part of your backyard and they can look like a natural water feature.

However, in-ground tubs of similar size often have fewer, less targeted jets and more bench-like seating, which some people find less comfortable than the options available in acrylic tubs. Also, an in-ground fiberglass hot tub can’t be moved and taken with you. Once it is a part of your landscape, it is there to stay.

We hope this hot tub overview has made your search for hot water therapy a bit easier.

Best Gifts for Mother’s Day

Mother and her family enjoying hot tub time together

What do most moms want for Mother’s Day?

  1. A relaxing un-interrupted soak in the tub or hot tub
  2. Nice aromas
  3. Some family time
  4. A day off from chores

At the Spa and Sauna Co. of Reno, we can provide all the above and more.

There’s still time to buy an in-stock hot tub before Mother’s Day. We currently have more than 50 in stock. What a surprise that would be! Spas start at about $3,000 for new tubs and as low as $2,000 for pre-owned tubs.

For those of you who already own a spa, consider Spazazz crystals. Spazazz can be poured into a hot tub for a luxurious spa experience in your own backyard. Spazazz crystals disintegrates, leaving no residue, while melting away stress and tension and softening skin. Choose from their Aromatherapy or Rx Therapy lines.

Finally, for those of you who just want to give your mom a break, consider our hot tub concierge services, which start around $100 a month. How much does it cost to buy a hot tub?

Collection of Spas from The Spa and Sauna Co.

So you’re flirting with the idea of owning your very own hot tub. Most of us want access to as much information on a product before we have a discussion with a retailer, so it’s understandable that you’d wonder why we don’t post hot tub pricing online.

Part of our dealer agreements with our hot tub manufacturers prohibits us from posting exact hot tub pricing online. What we can tell you is that, at The Spa and Sauna Company, our new hot tubs range from $3,000 to $20,000, meaning there truly is a hot tub for everyone. In addition to new models, we also offer pre-owned hot tubs, perfect for any budget, and occasionally at less than $3,000. Our goal is to find the perfect hot tub for you, not to convince you to break your budget.

In fact, we believe so fully that there is a hot tub for everyone, that it’s in our mission statement:

We exist to make known two little-known facts:

(1) Everybody needs a hot tub, and (2) Everybody can have a hot tub.

Hot tub prices are typically not listed online because the prices vary from dealer to dealer. Some dealers only include the hot tub in the price and then add on the additional costs of the accessories. Other dealers may have package deals where the accessories are included in the price. Delivery costs could also change from dealer to dealer. Be wary when you do find hot tub prices online; these hot tubs are probably lesser quality than their higher-end model lookalikes.

At The Spa and Sauna Company, we offer a variety of packages at fair prices to people in the Reno, NV to Tahoe, CA region. In the realm of hot tubs, there are tiers of hot tub quality. We often refer to them as our good, better, and best offerings. Though customers may end up paying more than what they initially intended for a higher-end acrylic hot tub, there is no pressure at The Spa and Sauna Company. You give us your budget, and we’ll stick to it and find the hot tub for you.

Once you come in to one of our showrooms, or contact us via email, phone, web chat or in person, we’d be happy to talk specific prices with you. A hot tub is a customized product, like a car in some ways...you can opt to add stairs, a standard or upgraded cover, a cover lifter, or even a stereo system or more advanced sanitizing system. Our hot tubs accommodate 2 to 8 people and offer a variety of levels of jetted massage.

Most acrylic hot tubs require a 220-volt outlet and offer features, such as stereo systems, upgraded covers, and upgraded sanitizing systems. Acrylic is used to make everything from furniture to light fixtures.

While higher-quality acrylic hot tubs make up most of our hot tub offerings, we also carry more budget-friendly “plug-and-play” models, which feature one-piece rotationally-molded shells and can be used with a regular 110-volt outlet. Rotationally-molded plastic is used to make everything from road cones to kayaks.

As your local full-service spa dealer, we offer 3 full showrooms, as well as a delivery team and service team to assist you after your purchase.  Our delivery team is happy to assist bring your spa right to your backyard and place it in the appropriate location. They will even give you directions on how to set up your spa for the first time. Our service department is eager to help you with any issues you may experience after installation.

We also offer concierge services, if you don’t want to handle the maintenance of your hot tub yourself. One of our service team members will come to your tub, clean and check your filters, balance water chemicals, hand wash the spa and cover, clean the spa water line and check for upcoming issues. Drain and clean or purge services are also available if you want someone to handle the more time-consuming maintenance issues only.

Here is a Google Review from a recent happy customer:

There are two key moments as a hot tub owner: the buying process, and the next 15 years of use. From the moment I shook hands with Bob at Sierra Center Parkway, to the over-the-top happiness of daily use, The Spa & Sauna Company has created a wonderful experience. They had plenty of choices to pick from, did a remarkable job at installation and training, and now we subscribed to the clean & fill service. Special thanks to Bob, Danielle, Devan, and Angel. We have owned two hot tubs prior our new Sundance Bristol. In the past, we bought a tub, and called if it broke. The Spa & Sauna Company go above and beyond realizing that this is a big purchase, and we will be connected for a long time. I would buy a car from them if they sold them. In general, really great end to end experience from the beginning.... Edward Renner

Can Soaking in a Portable Spa Help Me Sleep Better? Hot Tubs Carson City

A good night’s sleep is one of the most important things you can do for yourself. Yet few people get the restorative sleep they need. Luckily, relaxing in the hot tub can prepare the body for rest in a natural, comforting way.

Here are three ways a hot tub can help you sleep better.

Banish Aches and Pains Arthritis and chronic pain often flare at night, making it tough to find a comfortable spot in bed. With heat, massage and buoyancy, a hot tub eases pain, relaxes stiff muscles and soothes instantly. Twenty minutes leaves the body relaxed, refreshed and ready for rest.

A Quiet, Distraction Free Place With all the noise in life, sitting back and listening to the soothing sound of water and bubbling jets is a welcome change - relaxing body and mind. Before bed, this experience is incredibly calming, making it easier than ever to put a stressful day behind you.

Reduce Body Temperature and Transition to Sleep The science behind why a hot tub promotes deep sleep has to do with body temperature. Elevated heat gradually increases core body temperature. As you exit the tub, the body responds by cooling itself off. This drop in body temperature alerts the brain that sleep is near.

To encourage local residents to check out the benefits of using a hot tub to help improve their overall health and well-being, The Spa and Sauna Company is providing free test soaks at all their showrooms. We do recommend, however, that people wanting to schedule their free 30-minute soak call us ahead of time to reserve their spot.

Release Stress in a Portable Spa, South Lake Tahoe Hot Tub Sale

Release Stress in a Portable Spa, South Lake Tahoe Hot Tub Sale

It’s tough to power through when stress and tension pain create knots in the back, shoulders and neck. Rather than reach for a prescription drug, why not explore something more natural for relief?

Here’s how a quick dip in the family hot tub can release built-up stress.

Massage Away Tension A hot tub at home equipped with a variety of powerful jets can work out tension faster and more completely than any visit to the spa. Sit back, stretch out and let hot water and heat soothe, relieve and regenerate from within.

Escape For Some “Me Time” Heat, massage and buoyancy work together to treat your entire body to the mental and physical break it needs to recharge and refresh. Plus, with no appointment needed, you can enjoy “me” time anytime you need it, morning, noon or night.

Target Pain You Didn’t Know You Had Tension often turns into chronic pain that settles in the lower back or shoulders. Soaking in a hot tub is the solution to soothing and relaxing muscles and joints completely. With regular use, joint discomfort disappears, flexibility returns and minor aches and pains no longer limit mobility.
